There is one question that I am always asked: How long do you think the market for alpaca breeding stock will last?

After many years in the show ring both as an exhibitor and more recently as a judge, I have some observations on what it takes to win.

Everyone I know in the alpaca industry spends time thinking about how to market their alpacas.

Pure blood animal breeders around the world crave the ability to produce the best of their breed.

People visiting our ranch often ask me if I have a real job -- or what I did before I retired.

AMBIANCE'S MARCELLA

Marcella is a mature female who has produced some of the finest alpacas in the nation.

Marcella was last bred to Crescent Moon's multi-time champion black male, KRYPTONITE, and produced a stunning white female cria.

Prior to this she gave birth to EQUINOX ETERNIX, the rose grey male that won numerous color championships and sold for $73,000 two years ago. He is an exceptional animal, recently winning a color championship as a 5-year old at a large eastern show.   She also produced the multi award-winning SOPHIA DEL SOL who carries micro bundling throughout her fleece. Marcella is one of a handful of producers that have truly earned the mantle, "Elite."

Marcella has recently been rebred to PPERUVIAN ACCOYO CAMILIO. This pairing has produced five offspring; 2 rose grey (Sophia del Sol and Equinox Eternix); 1 dark mahogany with a grey patch on the rear leg (Alacante, who was purchased and now standing at stud.  Alacante's first sired offspring, a rose grey female, took color champion at a large show back east a couple of years ago); 1 light fawn (Marcella's Fioratura), and 1 reddish brown/white male who was sold as a non-breeder.

Marcella's sire is the well known macho, PPERUVIAN GUELLERMO. Marcella's geneology also includes WILLOW and SIDDHARTHA, who still maintains the rusty red fleece which we believe is a link to the Vicuna lines somewhere way back and still remarkably fine.

Willow was small in stature with that deep mahogany fleece and a wonderful bearing and presence.   Willow produced several rose greys (one of them being Ambiance, Marcella's dam), blacks and mahogany offspring in her career.

Marcella's exceptional record, potential, quality, reputation, bloodlines and past performance clearly makes her a proven commodity. Marcella was then bred to Rockford whose performance as a top award-winning service stud is only outmatched by his ability to pass those genetics (and awards!) on to his vibrant offspring. Please read below for his vast list of accomplishments.

Ancestry

Marcella's offspring are very consistent, with 'late blooming' fleece structure.  Her offspring have been solid, anatomically correct and all very showy.  They have all had that Camilio/Marcella 'Accoyo-type head profile - short wedged shaped, with a slight 'dish' of the nose concluding with slightly flared nostrils.  All the ears have had abundant fiber coverage.

Sophia del Sol is the light grey born in 2002 out of Camilio and Marcella.  Her fleece showed micro bundling in the blanket and in the top knot. At the AROW Composite Show, where Sophia's fleece was judged independently and anonymously; she took first in her class here, as well as at Alpacapalooza.  Last year Sophia gave birth to a light fawn male (just now 11 months old) out of Accoyo El Nino.  He was in a very tough class at Alpacapalooza (2nd place) and at the AOBA national (3rd place).

Alacante has been generating brown, black and grey crias (the last two when bred to black and/or grey), and all with very nicely structured fleeces.  Alacante took first place at the 2002 Eastern States Exposition Composite. Alacante's first cria, a rose grey female, won the color championship at the 2004 NAAS show.  This was a class V, so, all the heavy hitters were in this competition.

Fiora was only shown at Alpacapalooza in 2003.  She took second in a class of 9.

Equinox Eternix won at least two big competitions as a yearling.  He took first place at Heart of the Valley and Alpacapalooza and sold for $73,000.

ROCKFORD (Service Sire) is a rare half Accoyo medium silver grey who began settling females in 2001. He is a truly stunning male, with a regal presence and good bone. His conformation is excellent and his fleece ---- ahhhh, his fleece! It is exceptional, even more remarkable for a silver grey: very dense and yet fine and crimpy, with a defined lock structure. He has a strong, handsome head and ideal temperament.
(Multi Blue Ribbon Award-Winning Herdsire)

He has won ribbons all over the country, in every show he has been in, including:
In the year 2000

* 1st place CABA Estes Park Sun City Sizzle
* 2nd place AOBA Nationals
* 3rd place Futurity
In the year 2001
* 1st place
* AOBA Nationals (halter)
* AOBA Nationals (fleece)
* EVAA Alpaca Exhibition fleece show
*Alpaca Adventure fleece show

Rockford is now enjoying his retirement from the show circuit.
Most recent histogram is:
21.1/5.0/23.4.

Over 75 Rockford offspring have been born, and they are fabulous! Almost all of these beautiful youngsters are shades of silver or rose grey, or black. His grey color genetics have proven to be quite potent, as is his ability to pass along his remarkable phenotype to his cria. Many of them have gone on to become Champions and Ribbon winners in their own right. So far in the year 2004, in National and Regional shows, Rockford youngsters have distinguished themselves over extremely tough competition by winning:

* 6 Championships
* 1 Reserve Championship
* 11 First
* 8 Seconds
* 3 Third Places.

And as the 2005 show season moves through the summer, Rockford sons and daughters have had the following (known) successes:
* 2 Championship
* 3 Reserve Championship
* 12 First Place
* 16 Second Place
* 11 Third Place
